Bread feeds the body indeed, but flowers feed also the soul. -The Qur’an

Mahatma Ghandi said that the only way that God could appear to the very desperately poor was as bread and butter. I
understand the metaphor and the message he was trying to convey.

But I think that beauty is also an inseparable part of the mutuality that binds us all. It’s a part that feeds the spirit within us – whether we’re “religious” or not. It is a way in which God, whatever you conceive “God” to be, encourages us to work toward the time when there are no millions starving for bread; no single individual so poor that they cannot be moved by the sight of a flower.
