on Universality

The Golden Rule isn’t dependent on the practice of a particular set of beliefs. It doesn’t belong to one faith or one moral code. Rather, it, in concert with the concept of agapé, the all encompassing love, is the foundation on which our separate and distinct beliefs depend.
Because of this universality, the Golden Rule is the best opportunity that we have to find common ground in the staggering spectrum of religious practice and pronouncement.
When we understand that respect and the equal treatment of each other and indeed the planet forms the essential underpinning for our actions, we cannot help but begin to perceive our relationship with Creation differently.
That change in perception is the first step toward the transformation of ourselves and the world.
